Tombraider
Playmates acquired the rights to produce the Lara
Croft figures at the time she was only featured
in video games. At that time, Tomb Raider was a
hot up-and -coming property and we very fortunate
to be the first sculpting studio to get to sculpt
her.
It was such a big hit that Varner Studios picked
up its own license and successfully produced 3 resin
models (see portfolio under Varner Studios to view
them.)
The Playmates Tomb Raider series consisted of four,
6 inch figures and three, 9 inch figures in their
own dioramas executed in the video C-G form.
Later on, as the Tomb Raider movie was being produced,
we were commissioned to sculpt Angelina Joli as
Lara Croft figures. We sculpted five, 6 inch figures
and 2, eleven inch dolls. All-in-all, the Tomb Raider
projects were a wonderful challenge.
